Description: I would like to invite you all to our next Emergency Medicine Grand Rounds, which will be given by Alyson J. McGregor, MD, MA, FACEP. Grand Rounds will be held on Tuesday, October 3rd from 10:00am-11:00am in the Smilow Seminar Room (550 First Avenue, New York, NY 10016). The title of her talk is ?How the Evolution of Sex and Gender Based Medicine Impacts the Practice of Medicine.? Alyson J. McGregor, MD, MA, FACEP is a women?s health pioneer who has brought the concept of sex and gender differences in the delivery of acute medical care to the national stage. She is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, the Co-Founder and Director for the Division of Sex and Gender in Emergency Medicine (SGEM) at Brown University?s Department of Emergency Medicine. Dr. McGregor also serves as the Director for the SGEM Fellowship, Chair of the SGEM Community Advisory Board, Course Director for Women?s Health at the Alpert Medical School Emergency Medicine Residency and past President of the Rhode Island Medical Women?s Association. Nationally, Dr. McGregor is a Co-Founder and Vice Chair for Sex and Gender Women?s Health Collaborative, a national organization designed to foster sex and gender based medicine (SGBM) into medical education. Dr. McGregor is serving as Co-Chair of the National SGBM Education Curriculum Committee as well as Co-Chair of the upcoming SGBM Interprofessional Education Summit, two national endeavors designed to build an integrative educational curriculum that will advance how future physicians are educated. Dr. McGregor has also served on the Executive Committee for the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine?s (SAEM) Consensus Conference on Gender-Specific Research in Emergency Care and currently Chairs the SAEM SGEM Interest Group. Dr. McGregor?s research focus is on the effects that sex and gender have on emergent conditions and has been an international activist with such talks as "Why Medicine Often Has Dangerous Side Effects For Women? on TED.com which has over 1.3Million views. Dr. McGregor is the lead editor for the textbook Sex and Gender in Acute Care Medicine, Cambridge University Press, and serves on the editorial board for Gender and the Genome as well as Topic Editor for Women?s Health and Gender Medicine for Clinical Therapeutics.
